NaNo or No-No! (and book covers!)

Halfway through October, writers all across the globe are preparing for the big writing event in November that is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).

Very quickly then, for those who are not familiar with it… NaNoWriMo is an annual event, where writers all over the world take on a mammoth of a challenge of writing 50 thousand words in one month. The reward for all the trouble is internal satisfaction, peer motivation, and a feeling of camaraderie. Also, it really helps to get the 1st draft done! (see also Camp NaNoWriMo?)

For this year’s NaNo, which is my third, I am trying to continue (or rather revamp) the story that went unfinished during last NaNo. The title of the book is “Liberty Crisis: A Book of The Shade Saga”, and it is a fantasy book set in my The Shade Saga world.

As the world of writers busy themselves in planning, plotting, or simply ideating their novels, I kept myself busy by trying to come up with book cover designs! Procrastination at its best.

So what do you think? Which one do you like better?

And are you participating too? If yes, how about buddying-up!?

  2. Well, it would seem the overwhelming response has been for the first, and I must honestly cast my ballot, as it were, for the first as well. Although I do feel compelled to add some brief reason: The second one is certainly well-designed, but not as intricately crafted or “telling,” if I may use the word. The first is frighteningly enticing; whereas the second seems more a … stand-still statement, slightly menacing yet with (perhaps) too much ambiguity … I mean, of course, so far as the art itself is concerned. All the very best to you!

  3. Personally, I like the first cover. It’s darker in feel 🙂 As for NaNoWriMo — I’m tempted. I tried a couple years ago and failed about half way through. I want to try again … as for buddying-up … sounds like an interesting proposition.

  4. I like both of them, but if I have to chose, I say the first one, I think. It’s diffucult. You need a back side of the book, the second can be backside of the book with the about the book text! I chose both pictures 😉

Since this is your third participation, I wish you are going to wish this time, because ‘A book of the shade saga’ seems interesting story, besides the first cover design carries certain mystery of attraction. I wish you success.
