Designed a speculative book cover after a long time. Had so much fun, it left me wondering why I don’t do it more often!
The smoke could do with more work, I think. It’s far from the finished work. But I’m fairly satisfied with the overall manipulation of the hand, so I wanted to share with you all.
It’s still a work in progress, so, as always, any feedback would be most welcome. 🙂
They’re both very good! I personally prefer the blue tone colouring of the first but really like the contrast against the hand on the second. Enjoy how SIN jumps out on this too but not sure if it would confuse people over what the title is.

Thanks a lot! Yes, I was doubtful about that “SIN” as well. I thought maybe it might draw some intrigue, though! Thanks for letting me know 🙂

Both are awesome, although I personally prefer the second precisely because of the pop-out “SIN.” Just my humble opinion

The first one is my favourite – I like the character for the letter ‘I’, the underlining in red of ‘shadow’ and the deeper blue background.

Whoa! very nice! It seems I’m in a minority here where I actually prefer the second cover. I feel like the hand is able to stand out the most on the gray background, although the blue tones in the first cover is pretty appealing in its own right.

Thank you so much for visiting and taking time to leave a comment! 🙂 I agree with you on the white bg thing… but its hard to judge your own work. Thanks for doing this 🙂

The hand caught all my attention, so I don’t see the difference between the alternatives. I really like the hand!

And it’s a great hand. Never seen a book cover with a hand like that, so I really like it 🙂

I do like how “SIN” is bold and stands out in the second cover, but I prefer the first cover more. They’re both awesome!

I think you should go with both covers. One could be the first edition version and another for the deluxe edition for the audiobook cover on iTunes or CD. Best of luck with the project.

That’s great idea actually! 🙂 Thanks a lot!

First jacket cover is by far the most interesting and catches your eye. The hand should be made to look like wisps of smoke. I love the way you seperated Shadow and rising by a red line. Clever and also clever was adding a figure where the I is. By far the first jacket is superior

I mostly agree with thespiritkeepers (above), except for the smoke. If I hadn’t been told it was smoke, I’d have thought it was dried grass. I’d prefer to see smoke rising only from around the glowing orb, keeping the fingers clean.
That’s the problem with asking for an opinion; you’re likely to get many conflicting ones!

You’re right. But all the opinions only help me :). Thank you for taking time to visit and comment. Now that you pointed it out, I do feel like I might have placed the smoke a bit “all over the place”. Yes, a bit more minimalism would definitely work. Already begun working on the ” dried-grass-thing”. 🙂 Thanks again!
